Embroidery Explorations

This project is a collection of embroidery swatches and explorations which I did when surface embellishment was introduced as a subject, last year. Taking inspirations from various embroidery artists and learning various stitches, I tried to explore things further into this.
1. LINES AND CIRCLES
This was my first embroidery swatch and I have drawn inspiration from Lindzeanne, a hand embroidery artist. Below shows her few works.
 My Swatch
Materials used: Embroidery threads, Denim cloth scraps, White cotton base
Techniques: Running stitch, Blanket stitch
2. CHAOS
This started with a random assortment of fabric pieces. As I experimented, I rolled fabric, shaping it into playful circles and added them in the composition. Pink sequins and embroidered white cross symbols filled the empty spaces. This swatch is a definition of artistic spontaneity which embodies the freedom of creative expression.
Materials used: Embroidery threads, Cloth scraps, Sequins, White cotton Base
Techniques: Basic stitch
3. SMURF house
An applique swatch I came up with, presenting a cute illustration of a mushroom house surrounded with blooming flowers and cotton candy clouds. I wanted this to be very colourful and vibrant with the maximum use of cloth scraps of different materials and colours.

 THE FINAL Swatch
Materials used: Embroidery threads, Cloth scraps, Pearls
Techniques: Running stitch, French knot, Back stitch
4. THE FROGGY AND THE MUSHROOM
I made this cute illustration of a frog with fairy wings, chilling by a tall red mushroom, with a fern growing beside. Embroidered it to see how my doodle game translates into stitches.
 THE FINAL Swatch
Materials used: Embroidery threads, Black poplin base
Techniques: Satin stitch, Lazy daisy stitch, French knot, Stem stitch
 Thank you.
